Mother Nature Keeps Throwing Curveballs at Indiana Farmers

Mother Nature keeps throwing us curveballs as we try to progress through harvest. This is the Seed Genetics Direct Harvest Weather Forecast with Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin. Seed Genetics Direct is the Eastern Corn Belt’s fastest-growing independent seed company. Visit seedgeneticsdirect.com to get your Seed Guide with pricing!

Martin says we should be rain-free for much of the weekend.

“Sunday starts off okay, but we do see clouds coming back. Our next round of moisture develops later Sunday afternoon and continues through Monday. We see this wave coming up from the south and west and that’s going to be spreading across a large chunk of Indiana. 90 percent coverage the way I see it right now with rain totals that are going to be anywhere from a quarter to one inch.”

Martin believes we could get a bit of a break from rain on Tuesday, though it will be cloudy.

“And I think Wednesday we are mostly rain free, but a second wave of moisture is likely coming in here late Wednesday afternoon, Wednesday night, through Thursday. It could give another tenth to maybe 6 tenths of an inch of moisture across 60 to 70 percent of Indiana.”

We do finally dry down and stay dry a little while longer late next week.

“I think we can see sunshine in here on Friday. We keep that going through the Halloween weekend, the 30th and the 31st, and we start off November, I believe, with a good 2 to 3 days of dryness. So, that’s probably our best window of opportunity as we finish this month and start off next.”
