NFU Says President’s Proposed Budget Includes Crucial Investments for Agriculture

President Obama released his 2015 budget proposal yesterday (Monday) – and National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says the president has demonstrated meaningful support for the men and women who grow the nation’s food, feed, fiber and fuel. One of the major challenges facing farmers and ranchers is the dramatic change fueled by climate change – according to Johnson. He says family farmers and ranchers across the U.S. are already feeling the impact of increasing weather volatility. He says investments in clean energy and climate resilience will create new opportunities for American businesses while mitigating producers’ climate risk. The proposed budget also recognizes the disparity between farming and ranching incomes and the rest of the nation – according to Johnson. Through meaningful changes to the tax code, investments in rural development programs and expanded educational opportunities – he says this budget has the potential to lift up rural communities.
