South Korean bloggers that reach an average of four-thousand readers each day took part in a program last week that involved cooking with American beef, product tasting, a cooking demonstration and a beef sampling event. The group of bloggers is in its third year of participation in U.S. Meat Export Federation-Korea beef and pork programs. A chef explained why he prefers to serve U.S. beef, a Nebraska delegation met with the bloggers and Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Greg Ibach gave a presentation on beef production in the state. With more and more consumers wanting to know the story behind the food they eat – USMEF-Korea Director Jihae Yang said it was a great opportunity for the bloggers to meet directly with producers and learn how they produce beef.
South Korea is a top five market for U.S. beef exports. Exports jumped 37-percent in volume and 32-percent in value in 2011. Funding for the program with the bloggers was provided through USDA’s Market Access Program and the Beef Checkoff program.
