A familiar face is returning to USDA’s Indiana Farm Service Agency.
Julia Wickard is serving once again as the Farm Service Agency’s (FSA) State Executive Director for Indiana after serving in that same position from 2009 to 2017. Her first day returning to the job is April 11.
Wickard was previously appointed for the role by President Obama and has been recently appointed to fill that same role by President Joe Biden.
“I’m ecstatic about the opportunity to return back to Indiana agriculture, kind of full time if you will. Certainly, I go home to it every night, but to able to work in it every day, to work with Indiana farmers and to ultimately serve American agriculture so I’m really excited to get started.”
Wickard and her husband, Chris have two children, Jordyn and Jacob, who attend Eastern Hancock Schools. They also own and operate Wickard Livestock near Greenfield in Hancock County. Their property is a 100-year homesteaded family farm where they raise Registered Angus Cattle and operate a corn, soybean, hay operation with her family.
Wickard is a Purdue University graduate with a bachelors degree in agricultural communications and political science. She is a graduate of the two-year Indiana Agricultural Leadership Program.
Wickard says she enjoys serving as an executive and ag business leader, but the roles that she serves for her family and farm are most important to her.
“It keeps me grounded. Sometimes I wear two or three hats. Sometimes I’m a mom, sometimes I’m a wife, sometimes I work in policy and sometimes I just get to go to the barn and play with the cows and the goats, and that’s good too!” says Wickard.
